It's done. I have no idea how to feel right now...

I started this almost a year ago. I've been working on it intermittently since then. I lost count, but there must've been over 100 hours spent on it. I livestreamed some of it, did most of it on my own.

Got craploads of great critique from my friend :iconevincarofautumn: .

The story goes as such: Awhile back, I was looking through my gallery and I said "There's nothing in here I'm super proud of. I especially haven't done many pieces with full backgrounds. Let's give that a whirl." And so it began.

In a way the piece is kind of the epitome of what I do. It's got everything. It's made with pixel art, using traditional pixelling styles and self imposed restrictions. It has an anthropomorphic character. The palette is heavily reliant on blues and greens. It's everything I do crunched into one piece.

Some final specs:
Time Taken: Over 100 hours over the course of many months
Colors Used: 21, no transparency
Canvas Size: 380 x 260 (original)

It comes with a big WIP animation. This shows almost every save I made of the picture since its humble beginnings: [link]

Edit: DA does some weird scaling stuff, so it might show up looking blurry. I submitted it at 2x size, so it's still clearly pixel art. I tried it at original size, but on my monitor DA decided that it needed to be stretched out to a larger size, blurring it all up in the process. If you want to see how the piece should properly look, click the "Download" button or go to pixeljoint.

Edit Again: A big thanks to everyone who placed in a good word for this to get a Daily Deviation! As an added bonus, if you're interested you can check out the Specs Page (made by a member of Pixeljoint) to see the dimensions and color palette used in the image.

Note that this is the specs page for the original size version (of which there is no difference, other than the resolution of the image).

Daily Deviation

Ferret Space Pirate by ~Kaiseto The suggester wrote: "...this scene and the mood it evokes is amazing. The artist states to have spent well over 100 hours working on this and it really shows. From the colors used, to the posing of the scene and the coloring of the character, I can only say that I'm blown away by the amount of detailing that is present in this piece. I also thought, judging by the thumbnail, that this was a digital painting and it wasn't until I clicked it that I noticed this was made entirely by carefully placing pixel upon pixel..." Absolutely breathtaking. I cannot even tell that it was made as a pixel art from a distance! Your knowledge of dithering of color schemes shines brightly in this piece. The dithering on the sky backdrop and cool color scheme to be exact. The piece also creates quite the relaxing, etheral mood. Also, I'd like to thank you for giving me the pointers. I'm glad I'm getting them from such a seasoned deviant!

I'm really glad you took them to heart. Some people would've written it off as garbage or a troll, but I've tried to get into the habit of good constructive criticism thank to Pixeljoint. Also glad you like this piece. It was quite the doozy.

These are all gorgeous pieces of pixel art. I would feel proud to produce something half as good.

This is sooo good! It reminds me of Rocket Knight Adventures from Sega! (Which is still a fun game to play, I admit) =D

That game is awesome. Although I've never beaten it. Because it's Konami, and they like their games hard :p Hardest difficulty = one hit, no continues.

I know! I've gotten far, but it's so hard. Especially since you can't really save and start from where you left off. BUT it's still by far an epic game, and I feel very sad for today's generation who doesn't know it! =D
