Sections of a parallax background for a platformer I've actively engaged in working on. #1 is two layers of the parallax (ocean and beach) smooshed together into a single image for uploading ease.
#2 is the closest layer to the player, separated because, in a non-moving image, it covers up too much of the beach.
Your use of gradients is great, everything blends smoothly it seems. The sparkles in the water look nice too. Definitely seconding the comment about the style. Hope you don't mind a crit? Could just be my opinion though. It seems like tree in the background (the one with distinct leaves) seems to have a gravitational imbalance, like it seems a bit too top-heavy for its lean to the right. Maybe changing the top right leaf a little so it isn't as straight could help.
I guess I'm not really following which leaf you're referring to. The one I see as top-right doesn't seem particularly straight to me.
I actually think it would benefit from a trunk-thinning and moving the entire head of leaves over to the left a bit (keeping the ball on the trunk in the same spot).
Unfortunately I won't be getting around to it any time soon. I've hit a snag in my game, and won't be working on it until I've taken some more time to learn Multimedia Fusion 2 a bit better.

I think the trunk-thinning would be a nice touch, hadn't really thought of it.
I was actually, now that I get a good look at it, referring to the top "point" of the star-shaped tree. The slope of that leaf and the one to the left of it make a perfectly straight diagonal line, and I think it is that diagonal line that is causing the illusion. Sorry.. it's a little hard for me to think out a good explanation at the moment
That's all right, everything for the sake of progress; I wish you luck.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

As if muted in awe
